A light breeze gentle ruffles the leaves and cools the warm rays of the sun shining on the bright green grass of the pasture. At the top of the hill, a palomino pony appears, nostrils wide, taking in the scents of the spring air.©copyright crave1999Her head is arched, eyes bright and alert, her joyful spirit shining through. She stamps her strong front hooves and whinnies as she sees her stable mates near the barn below. She tosses her head with her dark blond mane rippling and breaks into a spirited trot that quickly becomes a rolling canter as she notices the trainer standing by the pasture gate. She stops suddenly, just a hands breadth away from her trainer and slowly reaches out her head to the trainer's waiting hand. She blows softly into the palm, nibbling gently with her lips to check for carrots or sugar. Finding none, she takes a step forward to rest her head in the crook of the trainers elbow and gently nudges her.
The trainer is kind, but firm, providing her with safety and security, which increases the pony's natural urge to obey the trainer's directions. Her trainer's voice is comforting and flows like liquid sunshine through the ponys' ears. Her flanks quiver with the memory of their last ride and she can feel her muscles strengthen, eager to perform and please. She is eager to feel the weight of the trainer on her back again, or joy of joys, pull the weight of the cart with her trainer's gentle hands on the reins.
The pony, although feisty and green, knows the pleasure that comes from the approval of the trainer. She waits for time when the trainer will desire to put her through her paces again.
